It is also worth checking for exemptions, some conditions qualify for free prescriptions

OH has one, he has the three monthly ones and it saves him a fortune. I might have to get one myself soon as well..*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200

My DH has a yearly one they we pay by DD. We only found out you can do it by DD just over a year ago from my Aunty who is a GP. My DH has needed to inhalers a month since he was young.0

My sister used to buy one of these annually as she's on a lot of medication, now she doesn't need to as we're in Scotland :T4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0

My mum has one paid by DD (the year one). We didn't know and my SIL is a GP, we just were googling various things and up it popped. First payment for hers is due out on the 8th. It's a bargain considering she's on three loads of tablets each month - before you even consider any other visits or if the doctor ups them.Princess Sparklepants0

My boyfriend has this and it's well worth him doing it as he regularly needs inhalers, nasal sprays and other things.0

Our rural surgery also dispenses, too, which is handy. The pharmacist told DH about it as soon as he went on Warfarin. Over a 18 months it did save quite a bit!0

The handy thing about paying by DD is that they autorenew (They write first and say it will renew if you take no action). I've been using them for 5 years. I have 3 different items per month and Dr will only issue monthly prescriptionsThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. There is something seriously wrong with the prescription charge system. You can get a medical exemption certificate if you take an anticonvulsant for epilepsy, so that is 1 item per month (or however long the GP is willing to prescribe for one one prescription), which would allow you to get every other prescription free also eg painkillers etc.
But people like many posters on this thread who need multiple items per month have to pay. It just seems crazy to me. They really need to update the medical exemption requirements to include more conditions.0
