Will he keep his JSA???

Hi,

I am planning to move in with my fiance in his place who is currently going through a career change and is back at college. He gets help with housing and council tax benefits and receives JSA (income based).

I am planning to move in with him and I will be on £15,000pa, now I did the benefits checker thing and it said I'd be entitled to a little help with benefits with both of us living there. But would he still be entitled to his JSA? As the way I see it, the JSA is supposed to be there to help HIM look for work, not so much to help with bills or anything else.

I just can't see how the government can expect 2 people to live comfortably on £15,000pa, especially when you live in Cornwall and the rent is stupidly high for a 1 bedroom teensy little flat and the rates are astronomical too! (Plus the need for a car is far greater down here than say in London as the public transport is shocking!)

Please help! I'm so confused and worried too! :/

he doesnt get JSA to help him look for work .... it's to pay his living expenses.
a couple are expected to manage on £105 a week, while claiming means tested benefit, so your 15k is a deal more than what is deemed necessary.

if you are over 25 you could claim WTC.
if you are under 25 you should get some hb/lha and council tax benefit

Is his college course full time? As most students cant claim JSA. JSA is when you are activly seeking employment, does that mean he is also seeking work and if was offered something he would give up his college course?

In short yes he probably will lose his JSA, your wages are way higher than the JSA couple rate.
