Electric bill - what to expect?
Options
Hi all,
About 9 months ago I moved into a rented apartment. Despite the fact that I used the electricity company's online service to notify them that I'd moved in, I hadn't heard anything from them after being there a few months, so I called them. They had no record of my apartment existing, and after a few months of phone calls (me doing all the chasing) they finally acknowledged there was a problem with their system whereby they had the meters registered to the wrong addresses.
Anyway it's being sorted now, and I have confirmed the details with them, it's with their crossed meters department. I'm therefore expecting soon to get a bill for 9-10 months electricity usage.
My apartment has electric water heating and electric heating (which I use probably about 3-4 hours a day over winter, but didn't use at all for the first few months I was there).
Anyway could people give me an idea of how much I should expect this bill to come to? I expect it to be hefty as far as electric bills go but how much? £500? £1000? The other complicating factor is I didn't get a meter reading when I moved in because I didn't think I had access to the meter cupboard in the apartment block, and besides, had no documentation telling me which meter was mine.
Any help would be appreciated.

Without more information on size of apartment, how many people living there, etc, it would be hard to give you a figure. It's a shame you didn't get a reading when you moveed in. Have you taken any readings yet? If not, take a reading this week and next week and you can work out your current weekly consumption. I would recommend continuing to take weekly readings so if the electricity co sends some kind of a crazy bill you can give them the figures and dispute it.0

What did the previous tenant do? Surely they'll have a final bill?Jurg wrote:Any help would be appreciated.
Do you know which meter is yours now?
A very rough guestimate would be 9 * 31 * daily usage which would give you an upper estimate of the units used.
It's straight forward to calculate if you're on a single tariff.
That of course excludes seasonal adjustments, price rises etc ......0 -
Thanks, got the bill yesterday. Was around £250 which isn't bad at all! :beer:0
