Family Tax Credit Overpayments

Do we still have to pay an overpayment that is over six years old?

We have appealed but the tax office refuses to listen to what little income we had then and claims we earned more.

We are about to appeal again, is it worth it as they are just grinding us down?

Any info please

Have you had a full explanation of how this overpayment is supposed to have arisen?

Back in 2005 the income disregard was £2500 so if your income in that year increased by more than £2500 on the previous tax year an overpayment could arise.

Also I think back then they still made payments via employer (PVE) and it was notorious for creating overpayments because of the delay in informing employers of changes of payments and their delays in operating the changes due to the timing of their payroll run.

You can appeal again but you need to provide them with new information for your case that you haven't given them before.
