Im getting help towards my mortgage.

I am currently on Income Support and get help towards my mortgage.

I have a new partner and would like him to move in in the new year.

Due to him having issues at his recent job he currently is living with his mum and not working. He is not claiming any benefits and is looking for new employment in the area I live in.

My query is, if it ends up with him moving in before finding work, how does this affect the benefits I am on? Do I lose the mortgage help purely because my partner has moved in even if no money is coming in yet?

Obviously the ideal for us is him finding a job and covering the mortgage outright.. thats the plan.

For the record I have only been on benefits less than a year, i dont want to come accross as a sponger.

It depends the reason you are on income support. Are you a lone parent? If so with him moving in you wont be entitled to this and as such your benefits will be assesed as you being a couple.

Ok thanks for the replies.. it was due to me becomming a lone parent, assessing us as a couple sounds good to me, i just hope the lap over doesnt leave a break in the benefits, im sure they dont just stop it all and the you have to reapply.

Mortgage support only lasts for 2 years on income based jobseekers allowance so you might find that you will no longer be entitled to any support.

Personally, I'd wait until he's found a job before moving in to avoid any issues.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p
