Halifax 'Token Device'

I've just logged into Halifax online banking and after entering my password it read "We have ordered a token device for you. Until it arrives please continue to login with your memorable information."

Has anyone got one of these? If so, is it like the HSBC 'Secure Key' or Barclays PIN Sentry? I thought Halifax only used telephone security?

I haven't had that message, and I've logged in a few times today. Sounds dodgy, Halifax don't have anything like that for logging in
Debt free and staying that way!

I typed in the address (never click links in emails) and it showed me my balances afterwards, so I'm pretty sure it was the correct site.

Me neither but knowing how Lloyds Banking Group works, customers tend to find out before the staff!

Definitely something to be concerned over. The latest (open the 3rd item 'Why have you introduced phone security checks') FAQs confirms they're not offering token devices.

There was a thread on here a few years ago where someone always keyed the url. Got a character wrong on one occasion and entered a fake site - which was set up precisely as the site they intended to access. Which accepted the data - used that to link to the real site - and then presented all the account data from the real site.

I've sent them an email, lets see what they say.
  • I work with Online banking for Halifax and can confirm that this is NOT genuine, Halifax do not issue tokens and have no current plans to.
Either you've mistyped the URL, as Mike mentioned, or you have a virus which has redirected you to a fake log on screen.
Either way, run a full scan and change your password/memorable info afterwards.
