You need to keep them well fed - I think you need to feed them before the exclamation mark appears above their heads (that's what worked for me anyway). Try feeding them at least twice a day:)

im on next level!!!!! Dont make the mistake i did and buy too much stuff before level 6, i fertilised a load of trees and now have to wait till my manure loads up again till i get level 7
