School Non Uniform Days - Whatever next?
Comments

Our school often has collection days, quite often no-uniform but with a theme. EG we recently had an "India" day, although the children were encouraged to wear clothing with an Indian theme if possible, 50p donation for all children who came in in non-uniform. However, no-one checks properly who has and hasn't paid, the teacher just has a tin and people chuck their coins in.
I must admit though, I do find them a bit tiresome, such as when they had "orange" day and the children had to wear something orange(!). i did once object to a "dress as santa" day as I thought it would mean lots of parents spending money on costumes unnecassarily but I was assured that the kids love it  My kids made do with a red t-shirt and a santa hat each.0 -
My children's school also has rather a lot of 'Non Uniform Days' - I think we've had 5 since term started in September.
I'm happy for our children to understand issues and charitable causes, however it really does peeve me off.... We support two charities and even though we are in debt I still feel the small donation I give each month to these two is more beneficial than applying it to my debt. However I'm really annoyed that the school 'make' me donate to the charity of their choice - selected pupils stand at the school gates with buckets for the 'donation'. I tried not giving a donation once as I really didn't agree with the charity and my daughter was then picked on as someone who didn't care and was too tight to give... actually it was her mother! And no I didn't care and yes I was too tight - but she wasn't. The last non -uniform day I just threw in a few coppers as I stormed on by... Had my best - don't talk to me, I'm a grumpy mum face on too.
