iPad/tablet vs laptop?

This might seem like a silly question but what is the difference between a laptop and a tablet?

Do tablets have USB ports or card readers? And what about printers, is it only wireless ones or can I connect corded printer?

I'm sorry if these questions are really stupid and obvious but I had to ask

I'd get a tablet if you were to just use a computer for internet and e-mails. Really basic stuff. But if you want something that you can plug stuff into and do work processing and other stuff, i'd go for a laptop. They offer better functionality I think.

not having a dvd/cd writer/rom is a killer for me so laptop all the way. The versatility of being able to watch one of my dvd's when I go away with work etc trumps the conveniance of a lighter weight tablet. However if as said above, you only want to use basic functions a tablet may be ok.

In my opinion.An ipad can not get instead of a laptop.
There are lots can not be done by an ipad.

Tablets: half the functionality at the same price as a laptop
Cant watch iPlayer without holding it (thats if iPlayer works in the first place) as opposed to resting it on your lap.
Useless for anything productive.
Glorified toys.
Pointless things, the latest pointless fad.
