Does Car NCB transfer to Scooter?
Hi all
Held a Full UK car license since 2002 and have 5 years NCB driving a car.
I've now sold the car and am a named driver on another car. I'm looking at getting a scooter and have passed my CBT.
Just two questions please re insurance:
1) When giving my bike license details, am I correct in thinking that I give the details as Provisional Bike License held since 2002, as when I started driving that entitles me to ride a 125cc?
2) Can I use my NCB on the moped?
Obviously both of these details will make a massive difference to the preimum, and I don't want to give false info, neither do I want to pay over the odds.
Cheers all

Not up on the current provisional rules I'm afraid - they seem to change every few years.
I'd speak to a car abd bike specialist to see if they can give you a decent starting NCB. Carole Nash might be able to help.0 -
Thanks Trebor, I did see this one but it talks about transferring the NCB bike to car, not car to bike. Cheers though.
No reason why it shouldn't work the other way though. I think the main point was that as long as you were not using the NCD on a car policy at the time it should be possible to get some recogntion for it.
It mentions Ecar who have a sister company called Ebike, so they might be worth a try. Other specialist bike insurers are MCE, Bennetts, Footman James and Devitt."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

Becareful that transferring the car no claims over to a bike may work but most wont allow it to be transferred back.
SO if you need no claims on a car within the next 2 years you maybe better off taking a fresh policy.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

There is no such thing as a 'moped-only' CBT. The CBT is valid for any bike or scooter up to 125cc, manual or automatic, whatever you originally took it on - the exception is for 16-year-olds, where there's a 50cc limit until reaching 17.
Bike-car-bike NCB transfer is really only a marketing ploy and is often only partial - since insurance on a 125 is so cheap anyway it might be best to keep the car one untouched for the first year - the scooter thing might not work out.Long-haul Supporters DFW 120

It depends, if the person didn't have A entitlement automatically on the provisional part of their licence, but only had p, and wanted it validated, then they would only do the CBT on a moped, and as such the restriction will be noted on the front of the DL196 in both the restrictions box, and the tick box at the bottom saying "Full Car/Moped"

op, have you actually got a price for your scooter yet? my 125 only costs £60 odd quid fully comp, it depends on the scooter but dont buy a chinese heap as the insurance will likely be around 3x that.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

The tick box at the bottom of a DL196 is not a restriction box. It merely records what type of licence the person had and the type of vehicle they did the CBT on. If they did CBT on a moped then they can get on a 125, as long as they are 17 or over. Neither would it be recorded in the restrictions box."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"
