E.ON RHT meter not working ??
Options
I recently moved into a 1970s built electric-only flat in Manchester with 2 meters, one for underfloor heating [RHT] and one for everything else. I tested the underfloor heating before buying and it was working [disk on old-style RHT meter turning when thermostat was turned above ambient temperature]. Because it was a mild autumn I didn't use the underfloor heating till a couple of weeks ago only to find it wasn't working within its allotted hours. The chances of 4 different thermostats breaking down simultaneously seems slight - all 4 still click on when turned above ambient temperature. The fuse box is in good order and no electrical work has been done. My neighbour's supply is ok.
As all seemed well from my fuse box into my property, I wondered if I hadn't been correctly transferred to the [only] RHTtariff E.ON has, and /or if my RHT meter wasn''t getting a supply and/or wasn't clocking on when it should. I contacted E.ON by e-mail and have been told I am correctly registered for the RHT meter as well as the general one. Has anyone else come across this situation? Any ideas? Thanks

Hi ratsmum
RHT meters are a bit of a hybrid set up and are usually found at all electric properties with particular types of heating like yours. They're generally wired directly into the water/heating circuits.
They only record usage for water/heating which goes through these circuits during set times. These times vary depending on the metering set up and the region.
Sorry of I'm asking what you've already said but if I may just clarify. Did you put the heating on during one of these specified periods?
The reason I ask is there's often confusion around the switching times where multi-rate meters are concerned. This is particularly the case with RHT meters as there are quite a few different variations.
Drop an email to the address in my Profile if you would like me to check the times for you. I'll be happy to do this.
If the RHT meter wasn't recording with the heating on during an off peak period, then the meter may be faulty and will need replacing. Call us about this and we can start the ball rolling.
Although you need to be on the RHT tariff for billing purposes, this will not affect the ability of the meter to record the usage correctly. Therefore, even though we confirmed you're on an RHT tariff, this doesn't necessarily mean the meter is ok.
Sorry again if I'm asking you to repeat yourself ratsmum but hope this is of some help.

Thanks to Malc who then replied to my home e-mail I had given him via his E.on mail address, and gave me a 'real' phone number to contact [not 0800/0845 type]. An engineer came within an hour, found [as I had suspected] a problem on the meter side of the supply [with the time clock] and in 15 minutes changed my 1970s imperial meter to a shiny new digital one. Excellent service. Flat now warm as toast.
Glad I thought of posting on this site. My enquiries directly to E.on via their own website produced rather generalised answers. Moral: persevere and diversify!0
