Hi,
I understand that while appealing against a ESA claim you can still get the basic rate. Will this happen automatically once they receive my appeal letter??

Yes.
However, they take over a week usually to process letters.
It's a good idea to send everything recorded, as they or the post office occasionally lose stuff, and chase it up at least weekly to make sure they got it.0
