I guess since it's an old house that there is no insulation under the tiles? I could imagine that there is quite a chill coming off the floor. Is it tiled even in the living room? I'd be tempted to buy a big rug to make it at least feel a bit cosier.0

Hi crooky
Sorry your bill has come as such a shock, it does seem to be a combination of price increase and catch up after a previous estimate.
Because you’ve only lived there since May we don’t have enough data yet about how much energy you use, we need this be able to make sure any estimates are close to what you’re actually using.
Registering online is a great start in getting your bills down, you can provide your own meter readings now and monitor your use.
Your Energy Tracker graph will offer some indication but is intended as a guide. It’s only as accurate as the meter readings we have, so don’t take the figures on there as gospel, just yet.
If you need some time to pay the bill, then it’s worth giving us a call to set up a payment arrangement, if you go for a monthly Direct Debit you’ll get more discount and be eligible for an online tariff.
We also have a specialist Energy Efficiency team you can speak to for advice on reducing your use and how much you’ll save by knocking your thermostat down a couple of notches.
Hope this helps a little but really worth giving us a ring, not just about this bill but with winter around the corner we can help make sure the next one isn’t quite so high.

That is a high bill indeed, especially for the last quarter
I think 22C is incredibly high and in an old house with high ceilings and many rooms it must be haemorrhaging heat especially if you have the heating on most of the living day.
I guess the only solution is to turn it down to 18c, wear some more clothes and possibly make use of any open fires.0 -
Yes the whole of the ground floor is tiled. I have no idea if its insulated underneath them. My guess is no. the landlord wouldnt be interested in making the house warmer, he thinks his tiles are wonderful. Hes spend a fortune 'doing up' the house but in all honesty hes wasted his money as hes bodged pretty much everything. There is a fireplace but this is boarded up. There are two large windows, one at either end of the living/dining room. We have a large rug but its a large room so difficult to cover the whole floor. I have considered getting a very large piece of carpet and putting it down but I wouldnt be able to fit it properly without damaging the tiles but this would be expensive anyway.
Ive spoken to eon who tell me my monthly usage is around £180 per month and it seems that a previous correct meter reading was never used. I discovered this from my online account. They told me initially id never provided them with a reading but I said I had and informed them of the info online from themselves so he backtracked and admitted it hadnt been used. So its looking likely that this is not as bad as it first seemed and its from previous months where they disregarded the readings. Annoying but nothing I can do about it now. Other than that they were very helpful, said hed send me an email to explain how I can get an energy monitor from them although it hasnt arrived in my inbox yet and I cant find the info online. Also offered to send me a payment card so O can pay £200 per month which will be my monthly usage plus an extra £20 towards this bill. He suggested that amount which surprised me as its very small but at least I know I can pay that and can also make extra payments and most likely pay it off in full in January.
I still intend to cut down on usage as I think £180 per month is a lot so need to look at that a bit more.
Thank you for all your help those that have read the full thread and not just commented on another posters post pointing out my mistake in sums not adding up.0 -
sorry there were more replies whilst I was posting. Amanda I have called thankyou. They were very helpful although I still havnt received the email he said hed sent regarding an energy monitor.
Sadly we dont have open fires, someone had the bright idea of blocking them up which is such a shame. There are even fireplaces blocked in the bedrooms. How this counts as improvements I will never know0 -
Glad got things sorted. Might take a while for email to come in, if you're still online, you just need to select Energy Fit from the menu on the left and then starter pack“Official Company Representative
