Basically Im trying to find a free sim with minimum top up of £5 if possible, I really only want the phone for my online competitions where it asks for a contact number and I dont want to be plagued on my contract or home phone.
if I could find a sim, with £5 top up, that lasts for 180 days (presumably by just sending a few texts or making a call a month to keep the number "alive") it would be brilliant, text or call usage would be minimal, its only really to receive incoming calls and text notifications if I win...lol...and enter the odd text comp
thanks.

No two ways about this one: Anything Free is not a Basic Right..it had to be earned...by someone, somewhere

Orange's PAYG SIMs remain active as long as you receive a call once every 6 months. See Section 3.4 of Orange's PAYG T&Cs.0

3 mobile, £5 top ups and 180 day deactivation limit (ie make a call or text to stop it deactivating). (but has to be used in a 3G mobile phone)0

As the OP is prepared to make a text or call a month to keep the number "alive" the credit on Asda mobile would be valid past 180 days or until exhausted, or do I have that wrong?0

I agree on getting Orange. Orange you can top-up any amount from 10p, 50p, £1 etc0

No you are right, i did not read the post correctly. But it does put the onus on you remember to text every 90 days or you lose all the credit! My only complaint with ASDA mobile:beer:0 -
Yeah, based on OP's intention to topup every month, I think they will all do. Even though most of them only require a topup every 90 - 180 days or so. I have virgin and I know I have gone 6 months between topups without it being deactivated.0

not a top up, none require that, what is required is a 'chargeable event' eg make a phone call or send a text, therefore a single top up could last years just sending one text message every 90 or 180 days depending.0
