quick question re. hearing dogs for the deaf

It might not be a trained hearing dog, but might still do things like alert the owner when there is someone at the door etc.
There's no need for it to wear a coat, dogs don't loose their abilities when they are not wearing a coat. The only point of a coat would be if the owner wants to take it into places dogs aren't usually allowed, maybe the owner doesn't often take it to such places so hasn't bothered to get a coat for it.0 -
True, but the dog is not required to wear the coat whilst in the home, and some dogs don't wear them when out because they don't all like the feel of them. The owner should have a lead with a flash stating the dog is a hearing dog and the owner should have id. Toy dogs and cross breeds are commonly used as hearing dogs.WastingMyTime wrote: »
Hearing Dogs do train many different breeds including Toy breeds and also train suitable pet dogs but all the dogs (in-training and qualified) wear a jacket in public and have an ID card.0 -
If it's that much of a problem, why not contact that HA and ask them to check up on it, although if the dog is not causing a nuicence and is beneficial to the owner then it seems a bit mean....0

Thanks all. The HA know about the 'issues' surrounding this person/the dog and hopefully it will get sorted.
I think it's been brewing for a while, but came to a head when deaf tenant wanted HA to fence off an area of the communal garden for the sole use of his dog. That, and his behaviour in general seems to have ruffled a few feathers!0 -

You are right -a lead with a flash can be/is used. This would meet ADEU specified standards. My apologies. There will always be obstacles in your way. It's not IF you remove them but HOW!

Well, he hasn't exactly been hiding his ownership of the animal then, has he? IF there was any question about the dog, the HA would have looked into it, so there isn't any need for armchair detectives.
Of course, if the locals would prefer being recorded as being responsible for disabled hate crime, they could continue as they are and perhaps he will get rehoused in a far nicer area in a place with his own garden as a result.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll

Hate crime?! I wouldn't say wanting to check on whether someone's dog is actually a hearing dog a hate crime. Does that mean that this thread can be classified a cyber-bullying?0 -
Is the dog bothering you in some way?0

JoJo you have hit the nail on the head! This is exactly what he is trying to do, apparently. He's been shouting abuse at people, picking arguments and generally intimidating others, and then going to the HA claiming people are prejudiced against him/his dog! Rumour has it (and it is only rumour) that he's trying to get another house.Jojo_the_Tightfisted wrote: »Well, he hasn't exactly been hiding his ownership of the animal then, has he? And no he has not been hiding the dog, at all. The dog's been there since he moved in, we all got a letter about it.0 -
