Just satisfy yourself with that warm glow of knowing how much you're already saving and a quick "Ha, Ha!" in a Nelson Muntz stylee. Our intrest rate is 0.8 % above the base rate, i dont think so;)

I would say no harm no foul. My bank rang up to discuss my finances and refinanced a Tesco loan I had at 8.9%, but they did it at 7.5%, no fees. This immediately meant I could overpay by an extra £50 as I was used to that level of outgoing already. The bank was presumably happy to do this for the % they make, and I am happy to be paying less in interest, win win!0

If the Halifax had noticed you were earning 0.001% on your savings and could offer you 3.5%, would you still be moaning?"If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

BTW they won't be 'going into your accounts', it will be a simple automated task looking for DDs of over X amount0

I am pretty certain they are not allowed to do this, I worked for a bank a while back and we had these lists, which showed mortgages and far more, whilst we contacted customers based around certain areas, it was worded as more of a general review, although we knew they had a mortgage or whatever with XX.
I don't think they are allowed to use that info for marketing purposes?I am a mortgage adviser. You should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Good point, wouldn't it count as mortgage cold calling?0 -
this really isn't a big deal, just ring them and opt out of marketing. Job done. You seem to be making a big deal out of nothing
I've received a very nice letter (1,5 pages long) from my bank apologizing and also given me compensation, it’s not much, but enough for a weekly shop :j
I did not expect it and I am very pleased the way they have handled my complaint, so do you really think I am making a 'big deal out of nothing'??0 -

yes. Banks are handing out money all over the place at the moment. Complain about the colour of the carpet and they will probably pay an amount.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
You could get a better rate than they are offering if you just shopped around (or spoke to an IFA / independent mortgage broker)I work in finance
