Yes you can get glasses on-line a lot cheaper but you yourself admit you wouldn't do it so why advise others?

Id agree with nedmundo in this instance. From the op post is seems they are not too au fait with opticians and spectacle wearing so finding an optician you trust to advise you the best way forward is much more advantageous then going on price alone
for people with low standard prescriptions, online seems to work very well - there are plenty of threads on here from people who've had excellent outcomes and excellent service (and equally, some companies are rubbish!). fwiw, i have a very strong prescription with some complex features. it's party so that i can try on the frames and be sure that they can hold the lenses. it's also because there isn't much competition for people as blind as me so the prices online aren't as low! last time, there was about £5 in it between online and costco so i went with costco. for other people, the saving can be £100+. it isn't all about the cost - that's always true of any transaction, but i think dismissing all online glasses providers out of hand isn't really fair/sensible. it's worth looking at and then making a decision based on all the options (which seems like the best option for any purchase!).

if you have a low prescription seems to be fine to buy online, but if your eyesight is bad i've seen advice for people with higher (> -8) prescription to not buy glasses online.

I wouldn't mind people who buy online if:
    1. They got their online supplier to check the glasses when there's visual issues
    2. They didn't expect me to reglaze their sub-quality frame when they've measured the pd wrong or it's been glazed off axis or when the plastic chips at the supra cord after 4 days because it's strung too tight.
    3. If they didn't argue that black was white when we say they don't have a feature on their current lenses. Yes you may have paid for MAR but you don't have it!
    4. They didn't use the tool kit with the glasses to attempt a repair, scratch the lens then expect me to fix it because "I can't drive without them".

All if that happened in the week preceding me leaving to go on the sick in our small, independent practice. We're perceived to be one of the best in the area so get a lot of people who get their test with us then take the prescription away.
