CPU fan going ok but no power to motherboard back panel

I'm trying to build a new computer for the first time. As far as I can see I've got all the wires in the correct places, however when I try and power it up, the case fans and the CPU fan go ok (and there's power to the DVD drive as that opens and closes), but I'm not getting any power or signal from the rear ports on the motherboard to the monitor, the PS/2 keyboard or USB mouse.
Can someone tell me where I'm likely to have gone wrong. Is it likely to be a cable I've not connected or something?
It's a Gigabyte GA-G41MT-S2P motherboard if that's any help.
Any help would be much appreciated. I'm tearing my hair out with this now.

Just checking: you have connected the 4-pin ATX_12V connector as well as the main ATX power plug?0

I can't find a 4 pin on the PSU. I did keep looking at that and wondering. I'm assuming it should have been on the PSU?
Sorry I've never done a full computer before - always left it to my brother.0 -
I had a simler problem before... i had 6 ram slot on mine (white.Blue.White.Blue.White.Blue) had 3 x 2Gb in the white slot power up fans on power button lights up dvd drive lights up but no BIOS or anything.. after 3 hours reseach turns out i didnt read the manual right and memory sticks shoulds of been in the Blue slot.
Best try using one memory stick.... also check graphic card and rams are seated properly and the cpu tooo0 -

Yes, it should be a separate lead from the PSU, but not all older power supplies have the necessary connector.
The user manual for that motherboard says of the ATX_12V connector: "If the 12V power connector is not connected, the computer will not start."0 -

I had a similar issue on my PSU when I built my first machine.
Check to see if you have an 8-pin supply coming from the PSU that will split in half.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:

And if you find that there is no 4-pin plug available, you can buy adaptors on eBay (or elsewhere) that convert a HDD power plug to the necessary ATX12V plug. They cost about £3 if you can wait for a delivery from HK!0

Thanks for all your help. After a bit of messing about (and putting the 4 pin plug in the wrong way) I've got it all up and running.0

The plug should have only gone in one way. Mine had a corner cutout to match the socket, is yours slightly different?:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:
