  • Tell them to just push the buttons and let you get on with your day.

I simply say, "Sorry but I can get a better deal elsewhere". Thats usually kills the conversation and is the truth!
  • Tell them I want to put my money in X bank at X%, and if you can match their T&C's I'd reconsider.

It helps if you have somewhere in mind that is offering a better rate ;-)

Of cause if the cashier is seen as bullying then that would be my number 1 reason for taking my custom elsewhere.
  • Anglo Irish used to ask me "may I ask you sir why you are withdrawing the money?", to which I used to reply "to spend it".

When they suffered massive capital runs they stopped asking.

"Paying off my mortgage" or "giving it to family" are usually good ones to stop the conversation dead also.
  • I went with "Russian hookers". Didn't ask me any more questions after that!
  • My bank (Halifax) has it on my customer record that I don't want them to try to sell me products. This seems to work - they haven't tried to sell me anything for over 2 years now. You only have to be assertive once to achieve this ;).
  • It may just be worth while listening to them to see if they can offer better products for you.

However, you are under no obligation to do so, and if you are certain you don't want to talk to them and just want to take your money tell them you are going to buy a car.

I think she was more looking for polite ways of saying no rather than lessons in how to be an rude and arrogant pratt.

If you just say you aren't interested and you're in a bit of a rush I'm sure they won't push you any further. If they ask again just repeat you aren't interested and they definately won't continue to push.

As a general rule. It is not worthy at all and just waste your time.

The advice you will get is just limited to their own banking products and have not been confronted with products from other banks. Sometimes they are very pushy and aggressive as the want you to make decision on the spot asap so you do not have time to do comparative study or asking other people opinion ....

You will get a better result by looking into comparison site first and than try to find out the details for instance asking people in this forum, etc. After you are convinced that is the product you really need, you could always come back and find further detail. You could prepare the question and therefore just asking what you want to know to allow you to make a firm decision.

It may just be worth while listening to them to see if they can offer better products for you.

However, you are under no obligation to do so, and if you are certain you don't want to talk to them and just want to take your money tell them you are going to buy a car.
