Im looking to buy a new Golf, Blue Motion Match model. The list price is just over 20k, (£20,290) but WhatCar.com tells me that the max I should pay for the car is £18,795.
Autobytel list it at a saving of £2970 making it £17,320.

I bought a Freelander a couple of years ago - £26k and the dealer offered 5% off. I showed them the autobytel price and they matched it straight away making it 11% off.
  • If you can wait a month you'll get more knocked off as the year comes to an end - depending on how the respective garage has been doing!
  • Thanks everyone! Really helpful! I’ve contacted another garage in the area and booked in to go have a chat on Sunday.

I’ve looked into drivethedeal and it seems like it might be an option for me if the dealer won’t meet that price.

Has anyone used them before? I’ve looked up some reviews but there are comments saying they could just be the owner of drive the deal commenting.
Would love to hear some real review on Drive the deal!

Drive the deal just put you in touch with a main dealer who will supply at the price quoted (but they don't take trade ins.). Brother in law used them with no problem - the supplying garage was miles away but delivered the car.
  • Hi Hotspur- what was your experience with Carfile like? Is your car Pre Reg?
  • I was interested in a car on carfile today. Turned out that it was not available at price advertised.

Carfile were excellent. Very helpful with all my questions prior to purchase. Once you decide on your vehicle you call them and they will quote over the phone, options including met/pearl paint are discounted too. When you agree on the price they will put you in contact with a franchised VW dealer. From then on all contact is with the dealer. All payments go to the dealer so you don't pay Carfile any money as they take a commission from the dealer once the sale has concluded.

My car was brand new and I was the first registered keeper.

    Hope this helps.
  • Yes thanks it is very helpful! Drivethedeal has a slightly better price though.
I have an appointment to see anotehr garage this weekend, so ill see how that goes first. It will interesting to see how close he can come to the brokers prices though.
I might even post another thread asking for experience with car brokers...

    thanks again all!
