Belfast for 7-10 days break?

Hey guys,
Hoping to take Dan away for a surprise break for our first anniversary at the beginning of February - thing is his passport is officially marked as lost (even though he found it again..)
Have been looking at UK destinations, and found cheap flights to Belfast. I went there in 1999 in the winter, and there was a lot of political unrest at the time (or so we were told..) but I didn't get to see much else of it, plus I was a very young teen at the time.
Any advice on Belfast? Suitable for a city break away? Anything good to do? Avoid?

are you sure you don't need passports on uk flights?
We have not got passports and i presumed that even domestic flights required passports as ID?
If you have not got passports what other photo idea can be used?
i have a driving licence but what about kids? they don't have any id?

Belfast is a good city to visit we found. You can get the train a few stops from Belfast to Cultra for the Folk and Transport Museum. The Folk Museum has an outdoor village which has been recreated by moving old buildings brick by brick there. You have an old post office, bank, shops, school etc. They have different displays and a nice cafe that does meals. We hired a car for a few days (as parking restrictions were lifted after 6.30pm so no problem parking it in front of hotel) and visted The Giants Causeway and nearby area one day and in Down the next to see St Patrick's Cathedral and The old Gaol Museum nearby. We didn't get time to visit as only went for 4 days but there looked to be a good zoo. Belfast had nice shops and pubs.
You would need official photo i.d. to get on the flight to and from Belfast (we used our passports).
For reasonably priced hotels you could look at the Holiday Inn (2nights for one link, but you would need to book it in blocks of 2 days at a time to get the best rate), Days Inn and Travelodge.0 -
BA require no ID on internal domestic flights in the uk
Q What forms of ID do I need to check in at a conventional desk? A Suitable forms of ID include:
Domestic travel
Credit card, Executive Club card, driving licence, company works card / ID.
Travel to the US
A Passport is required for all international travel.

7-10 days is far too long in my opinion. It's a lovely city and I love living here, but you could see it all in 3 days. Things like the bus tours etc are really good for tourists but not sure how great they'd be in February, the weather here is crap 24/7, if it's not raining, it's freezing. So bring lots of warm clothes!
The Zoo is pitiful, I wouldn't waste my money travelling out there, although I did go after going to Dublin Zoo, which is fabulous, so may have impacted on my opinion of it.
The Titanic museum should be open by Feb I think, there are loads of shops, and good bars
The hotel my family stay in when they visit is the Ibis, there are 2 within the city, one near the shops in the city centre and one about a mile away near Botanic Avenue and the university.
If you do decide to come I can advise on restaurants/bars etcThe frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -
Maybe you could do a few days in Belfast and hire a car to visit other parts of Ireland. We went to Galway one year in February for a few days and had quite nice weather (stayed in a Travelodge, with parking so just walked into the city centre) . It would be about a four hour drive.0
