  • *******Breaking news******** An earthquake measuring 6.5 on the richter scale has ripped through Ilkeston decimating the area and causing at least fifteen quids worth of damage.

Victims were seen wandering around aimlessly muttering "f*cking hell", "b*llocks" and "where's me fags".

Several priceless collections of mementoes from Blackpool and Skegness were damaged beyond repair. Three areas of historic burnt out cars were disturbed. Many locals were woken well before their giro arrived.

The Advertiser reported that hundreds of residents were confused and bewildered that something interesting had happened in Ilkeston. One resident - Tracy Sharon Smith, a 15 yr old mother of 5 said "It was such a shock, my little girl Chardonnay Mercedes came running into my bedroom crying. My two youngest, Tyler Morgan and Megan Storm slept through it all. I was still shaking when I was watching jeremy kyle the next morning".

Apparently though, looting, mugging and car crime did carry on as normal. The British Red Cross has so far managed to ship 4,000 crates of Sunny Delight to the area to help the stricken locals.

Rescue workers are still searching through the rubble and have found large quantities of personal belongings, which include benefit books, jewellery from Elizabeth Duke at Argos and Bone China from Poundstretcher. How can you help? This appeal is to raise money for foods and clothing parcels for those unfortunate to be caught up in this disaster. Clothing is most sought, items most needed include:Fila or Burberry baseball capsKappa tracksuit tops (his or hers)Shell suits (female)White sport socks Rockport boots and many other items sold by Matalan.

Food parcels may be harder to come by, but are needed all the same. Required food stuffs include:Microwave meals, tins of baked beans, ice cream, cans of Fosters or Special Brew.

Please don't send tents, as the sight of posh housing will upset neighbouring Cotmanhay & Kirk Hallam.
  • actually its the Chad paper round here :) Its all relatively quiet round here and not much goes off. Theres Heanor, Ilkeston, Codnor and Ripley thats not too bad Swanwicks a bit further out but its a nice village with nice schools and is all countryside. Eastwoods classed as Nottinghamshire, so it depends which side of the border you want to be at really. If you put in NG16 3SS on rightmove within 5 miles you'll not be far off and its coming up with over 300 properties so you'll have a fair few to choose from. The further out of Derby you go the more choice you will have, but theres others the other side of Derby (like Sinfin, Markeaton direction) so depends which part you want to go towards

  • Tee hee, very funny. Does that mean not ilkeston,Cotmanhay & Kirk Hallam...any positive cheapish areas??
  • i don't know much about them areas other than American Adventures used to be in Ilkeston. I think there good areas but are all on the border. You can't go far wrong in most parts of this area. In all the years i've lived in Derbyshire very little has happened really, even in the riots nothing happened in the area.

  • Your not really selling it .....but you are making me smile. Quiets good though, countryside would be even better, but that will have to wait...cant afford it!
  • if you want the country side aim a bit further out like swanwick direction. Its not a bad area. Check out the towns and streets on the police statistics website as it will give you a better picture of the areas, but most are safe round here as its quite a placid area really

Swanwick is nice, I lived there for 6 years up until Easter this year and never had any problems and the countryside is right on your doorstep, and being next to the A38 it is a quick 10-15 minutes to the outskirts of Derby. Most villages surrounding Ripley/south Alfreton are generally ok and way cheaper than the peak district, but I would avoid Somercotes and Codnor...

I suggest you maybe rent for 6 months and get a feeling for different areas before buying, although I appreciate that may be harder if you have kids.

i'd add ironville to the banned list too. Parts of codnor near the park is ok, not sure about the rest. Most of Alfreton is ok, avoid the normal but the middle part has quietened down a lot more than it used to be. Riddings is nice and a village. Just depends how far out you want to go as its about 14 miles from here to Derby, and i think i read on another bit you'll be working at the royal derby hospital which is about 15 mins outside of town. Denby and Kilburns other areas to look into as i think there ok
