Yorkshire Bank

We have recently received new cards for our Yorkshire bank current account, they used to be maestro cards they now say MasterCard Debit on them but when I have tried to pay for goods and services online and telephone I am told I will have to pay a fee as it is showing as a credit card!!

I went to a branch yesterday and asked if I could change back to maestro cards, they said no but they are aware of the problem I am having.

Has this happened to anyone else?

If the bank won't help you sort out a known problem, then perhaps it's time to find a new bank.

Is your account a Readycash account or a full current Yorkshire account? They brought in the Mastercard debit card a whike back, but kept Readycash holders on the Maestro card (unless they have ditched the Maestro on the Readycash)

    So Mastercard is lying.

Debit Mastercard: "The card is accepted at over 29 million retail locations around the world, on the Internet and 1.4 million ATMs - wherever MasterCard is accepted."

When you do find somewhere to accept it
"ChargebackGood news for five million customers in the UK who have debit cards bearing the maestro brand. They are run by MasterCard and that name will soon be on them all. But since October these debit cards join their rivals Visa in offering customers a full refund if the goods they buy with them end are not delivered or are faulty."

  • I think this is because retailers haven't updated their systems yet so that the card number is showing up as a Mastercard credit card instead of a Mastercard debit card

Mastercard isn't lying, the OP isn't having trouble find places that accept it, their systems just believe it's a credit card. There are similar problems with any such change in card types. eg Co-op replacing visa electron with visa debit.
