When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free :money:

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important.:D

Morning all,

Running a tad late again so need to be quick!

Today's plan:-

  • [strike]Food from stores[/strike]
  • [strike]Charge phone at work[/strike]
  • [strike]Make use of free water/milk at work[/strike]
  • [strike]Stay in for most of my lunchbreak to avoid spending, need to do a couple of bits though[/strike]
  • [strike]Pop to Mr T's, pick up a few fresh bits & check out reduced section[/strike]
  • [STRIKE]Check for surveys[/STRIKE]
  • Enter comps
  • [STRIKE]Dinner from meal plan[/STRIKE]
  • [STRIKE]Check online banking[/STRIKE] - Looking a bit better now that some refunds have gone through!
  • Check out this weeks flylady thread & do something
  • [STRIKE]Try & keep the heating on low[/STRIKE]
  • [STRIKE]Use free washing up liquid[/STRIKE]
  • [STRIKE]Get OH to take New Look items to CollectPlus place[/STRIKE]
  • Create a new meal plan for the month
  • [STRIKE]Take refillable water bottle to Polenastics & get a lift there[/STRIKE]
Have a great, MSE day everyone x

Morning everyone. Thanks Perni for starting the thread

Lovely start to the day. Came downstairs to find the dog had been sick everywhere. She had been poorly last night, and had been sick on the hearth rug in the front room, but that wasnt too bad. This morning it was all over the settee and floor, so had to strip all the cushion covers and get them in the wash before setting off for work.

    Today I have/will
Showered using toiletries from hotel stays
Free parking at local station then train pass to work
    Free newspaper at local station
    Charged phone on train
    Free coffee/water at work
    Read library books
    Low spend day

    Have a great day everyone
Debt free since December 2015. It can be done

Hi everyone and thanks Perni for getting us started.Great idea regarding food plan-think i'll do and stick to one myself!
Karb-I hope your dog gets better soon :)

Feel quite ill today, so unfortunately will not be going in to work today-i have so much stuff i need to sort out too:mad:I'm adamant, will not spend anything on any bargains i see, regardless of how 'cheap' they appear. Will try to have a bit of a clear out. My front room tv not showing any analogue or sky channels, so that will be another expense, but i'm determined not to rack up any further spends. Need to return a jacket to millets, but being off ill, you never get anything done anyway,so see how far anything goes. But, i will try to scout round for potential further ebay items in the house. Good luck everyone.:)

    Debt-free and Proud!
    Morning all!

Missed posting over the last few days, still getting to grips with the whole forum thing and keeping up with threads :o

    Today's DFW plan

    - drink free coffee at work (it's not the best tasting but I've run out at home and it is free)
    - HM butties (didn't make the cheese and pickle fillings just the bread)
    - blagged tea at my friend's tonight (so no cooking or washing up and free food)
    - came to work in DH's company van (we don't have to pay for the petrol)
    - kerri's DFW challenge = one hour on Fb tonight (save time and electricity)
    - do any online surveys and enter breakfast tv comp online (DH's already spent the £30,000 should we win)

Have a good day all xxx
  • Good morning, all!

Thanks for the thoughts yesterday, KJP, but yesterday turned into a circus! Got rear ended and knocked over on my motorbike on my way home yesterday (falling into rush hour traffic, thank goodness no one hit me) then stupidly drove home without realizing my break light had been knocked clear off. Got home to find boy with a rampaging case of man flu, which we took him to the hospital for to check it wasnt malaria (it wasnt, just a virus) but he was feverish and miserable all night. I'm going to run home at lunch time to ensure he doesnt expire completely...

Hope your pup feels better, Karb!

    Anyway, today:
    • went to get bike a few fixes this morning, cost me a princely 50p! I love this thing...
    • bike to work
    • breakfast at home
    • buying lunch for boy to make him feel better, will bring it home
    • probably skipping luganda lessons as I seriously need a night off after yesterday!
    • making soup for dinner

Thats it, hope everyone has a better tuesday than mine!
    Mortgage free by 30:eek:: £28,000/£100,000

Morning all, just running on quickly during morning break!

Karb, hope your pup's better soon, Traveller, hope you are better soon and NTBY, I'd wish for your day to go better than yesterday but I don't think my luck did you any good yesterday so I will stay quiet! Hope you and the boy are ok! Perni - thanks for starting the thread!

    Today I will:
    Check banks
    Check TCB
    Check CC
    Check Paypal
Post Ebay item finally paid for yesterday
Hope Ebay item sold yesterday is paid for today so I can post both at same time
    Post test item
    Check Ebay
    Food from stores
    LSD
Drink water - current tap water tastes of garlic so not aiming for usual 2lts a day, just 'some'!
Surveys on $w@gbucks - seems a good site, anyone use it here? Halfway towards a $5 paypal payout!

    Have great days all!

  • Hi everyone.
    Thanks for starting thread Perni.
Hope you're ok NTBY, you may hurt a bit more by tomorrow i'm afraid. (know this from sliding my bike down the M6 a few years ago:eek:)
Hope the dog is better soon Karb.
Haven't been posting for last week or so. Work has gone from bad to worse with stress and long hours but reduced pay, decided to do something distinctly none MSE and handed my notice. I was gonna finish at the end of Jan anyway to move back to the Midlands but will now finish just before Xmas. I have said I will stay on and do bank though and still have my other bank job so should manage for a few weeks. :o
On a better note I have finally finished all my college work and should hopefully get signed off it tomorrow. This means when I start job hunting in the New Year I will at least be qualified and hopefully get a job easier!
Am at work today on a break between calls.

    Todays list:
Meals from stores (strange concotion of toast, pate and sushi for breakfast:D, left over curry for lunch, will take butties to work tonight)
    Post another Ebay parcel.
List a couple of bits on Ebay.
Walk pooches while it's still light.
Will try and drive carefully around lunch calls.
Car sharing around work tonight, work partner is driving.
Off tomorrow so will catch up around the house then.

Hope everyone has a good day.
  • Morning all!

wow thats so brave of u Aria! Am seriously impressed :A good for you. I'm in the same situation - kinda my company has restructured several times over the last 2 years and my job has changed drastically, much more strategic, more staff to manage, working in a different area, more responsibility and stress. I've realised that its not the job I want to do but need to stick it out until I get another. But its tough round here at the moment. I always used to get interviews for jobs I applied for, and usually have been offered them, but not the case at the moment. Wish I was as brave as you, I keep begging oh to let me quit and live off our savings until I find another but he is having none of it and is adamant that I have to find another before I quit! Phew got that off my chest!!! :o

Not much going on for me today:
    • applied for one job
    • got application for another
    • checked banking
    • shifted funds around
    • sort out financial ombudsman complaint form re Virgin - this is so complicated!!!
    • go through cupboards/fridge/freezer & draw up shopping list
    • go shopping
    • go for a walk
    • go to the gym this evening
    • call gp to get sick cert reissued as am going to go back to work on Thursday

ok thats my lot for the day. Love to you all.

NTBY - hope you feel ok & the boy gets better soon
karb :eek::eek: hope the dog is better soon x

Goodness, so much has been going on it would seem!

Karb - Hope your pooch is feeling better now, for your sake as well as hers! What a nightmare to wake up too...
Traveller - Hope you feel better soon, & good luck with the ebay hunt
Tebheag - Happy birthday to your DD for tomorrow, yay for the terrible two's!
NTBY - Omg, that is so lucky! Or unlucky, depending on how you wanna view it...but anyway, glad you're just sore rather than anything worse. Hope "boy" feels better too.
Aria - You're brave to be doing that in this climate! Best of luck job hunting in the new year
DNMS - You have a wise OH! Stick it out until something better comes along, it's always easier to find a job when you already have one, & the last thing I want to see if you posting here everday because you're back to being a DFW! (Keep posting, but keep up the DF work please! It's nice to see DF people here, gives me hope :o)
