Try this link and actually look at how closely the indices correlate.

That takes all the fun out of it. Using that timescale shows that all the indexes follow pretty much the same trend.

Maybe it's statistical nonsense to take two points from the NW graph and two points from the LR graph and conclude that LR "is the only way to fly".

Yesterday was really the official opening of the real recession/depression/hard times, no matter what people have been saying since 2007, nothing has happened in the way of belt tightening since yesterday and forwards. the past few years have been nothing but avoidance measures.

Thing is, you've been saying it's "really about to start" for years now.
But this time you really, really, really mean it eh?
    Wow, such prescience.

    Do you really believe that?

    Yes.

I am not sure how old you are, or how good your understanding is of a proper recession, but when things get tough and bills are not being paid and of course food not being put on the table then the temptation to sell that second home or even sell the only home becomes tempting.

I also do not know if you have young children, the worry of looking after them overrides everything, and right now those who are living from hand to mouth and worse might see the sale of a house and the equity it releases as a nice way to ride out the next decade, at least they can give their children a secure and happy decade in many cases.

And if you are still not convinced just wait a few more months to start witness what I am saying in other forms, like pawn shops growing or short term loans for a few weeks that have astronomical APR rates.

And for the others that still have their heads buried in the sand, did you not hear what Mervyn King had to say today, it's really not good.

I’m old enough to remember a few recessions but your home is a lot more than an asset. You can’t give your children a very secure decade by selling your home and renting. With the rent for a small 2 bed in my area at £850 a month you would eat up your equity at rate of more than £10k a year. I’ve struggled in the past and the very last thing I would do is sell my home.
