My ex husband has given up work and now my payments for the three children will stop. he has decided to be a stay home father for his new family. Great timing just before Christmas but now i've just been kicked in the stomach a second time. C.S.A have phoned and said i've been over paid and i owe them £225 !! i don't have any money now and as my current husband has just been downgraded in his job in the public sector we are living on a shoe string (that has just got shorter)
do i have to pay this money back ? when i first started to get C.S.A i was underpaid and i called them to ask why and they said i will always be a few weeks behind. so with him giving notice to leave his job on the 1st of nov and my getting the last of my payments last week i can't see how this has happened. please help or give me some advice on what would be a good offer to pay back or if i should fight it. so fed up with everything right now.

It is very rare for a PWC to get an overpayment, and it is not always accurate or easily explainable.
I suggest you ring them, I would request a full Account Breakdown from them - you are FULLY ENTITLED to this. and chase it up! this will give you a full list of dates and changes of every assessment and re-assessment made, every payment they receive and every payment that has gone out to you, it will also have totals at the end.
It is only with a full account break down sometimes that any faults or inaccurate calculations come to light.
If it tuns out to be correct, and you are on benefits they could take it off you at £5 a week rather than the whole amount.
if you get no joy DO go to your local MP and ask that he put in a complaint on your behalf, this is the only way to get them to jump into action!
good luck!0 -
That's terrible that he would just give up work and stop supporting his children! You must wonder, how you ever had three children with someone who would do that? What a terrible father, I hope he comes to his senses.
