Can a freesat receiver use a sky dish?

Options
Have a sky box downstairs. Thinking of buying a freesat receiver for the bedroom. Can i connect it to the existing sky satelite dish?
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

yes it can but if your sky box uses all the spaces on the lnb then you may need another dish

  • Check the end of the lnb on the dish (where the cables come out...best way of describing) if you have two(or one if you don't want to record 2) spare ones then yes , if not a new lnb isn't too expensive so buy a 4 or an 8. By the way freesat is not the term for the receiver freesat is the bit that gives you an EPG , much the same as Freeview is an epg too. most satellite receivers can also receive channels outside of the Freesat epg. Especially if you want to record BBC(and others) HD without encryption so you can copy them and play them elsewhere.

  • If you've got a Sky+ box, chances are you'll have had a quad LNB on the dish from when it was installed, so you'll have 2 spares.

If not, a new LNB, as stated above, isn't that expensive.

  • You would have to be careful when adding connections because you could affect the dish alignment. The same goes if you had to change the LNB.
