forgotten command for setting up windows 98

Options
My brain has deserted me.

Windows 98 setup is on drive C

How do I install windows 98 on drive D?

Rhetorical question.

How long does it take to format a 300 GB drive?

Too long.
30 minutes and only 30%

  • Windows 98 for a specific reason.

Windows 98 setup files are on a bootable USB drive as my CD drive is not working.

I boot into dos and am trying to set it up from there.

As I said my brain has gone

    Setup.exe if I recall.

Curious, whats the reason for 98? Some old software that works on it?

    quick format takes seconds

    format d: /q/s

then xcopy the win98 files from flash drive to a directory on d

    eg

    md d:\win98

    xcopy c: d:\win98 /s/e/v

then reboot without the flash drive and install.

yes I know but it keeps on trying to install it on the same drive it is on which is C

I want to install it on my hard drive which is coming up as D

no matter what I put in the dos command line it always installs it on C
  • quick format takes seconds

    format d: /q/s

The disk was NTFS and it doesn't like quick format. And I did FDISK it.
