How can i add value to my house?

I am presently doing long overdue renovations to my house. The central heating will be put in the weekend and i am looking round for bathrooms and kitchens presently but i want to look at renovating it overall. My house is an roomy ex council house (bought off the council in 1970) and is in good order in not too bad an area. Its got two large bedrooms and a largish sized box room that we also use as a bedroom. The shape of the roof rules out a loft conversion (i aint sure i want one anyway) and i dont want to start building extensions. We are not sure as to whether we will stay in this house forever so what ever we do will need to work for us rather than against us. The decoration is being done in neutral colours and i am planning to optimise space. Off road parking is being considered depending on the cost (no good spending money if i wont get the money back if the house is sold). We replaced the roof 3 years ago.
I am just wondering if i have missed anything that i really ought to consider?

Double glazing, cavity wall insulation?
How about adding a cloakroam/shower room downstairs (you can't have too many karzis in a house, in my experience), but this would probably require a small extension."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
Like you say, it all depends what you intend to do with the property.
These days most people want double glazing and a nice kitchen and bathroom.
You won't recoup money on a lot of things that can be done, so don't do too much with the intention of raising a future asking price.Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.0
