Removing a fire surround

Would anyone know how to remove a fire surround for decorating behind as rather than cut the wallpaper around the intricate edges, I would rather pull the surround away a few inches and partially paper behind. I have looked all over for the fittings but can't for the life of me find them. I enclose a picture. [IMG][/img]100_1693.jpg

Either they're sunk into the plaster at the top/side (remove existing paper to find evidence) or could be lift off - my fireplace is held in position by oak wedges behind the fascia....

that looks similar to mine (cream color). and its also stuck on with fire cement to seal the fireplace.
so removing it and replacing agin will be a bit of jobby.
    Get some gorm.

if you draw a line across the fireplace from the third book shelf, (rh side), there are two fixings there, just under the plaster.

(two brackets screwed into the wall).

That is a louis surround made by debrae if I am not mistaken ( used to sell loads of them years back. Expensive surround)

You should find that it is fitted with concealed wall brackets. You need to gently knock the surround under neath the mantel and hopefully you should find it moves up and off the bracket on the wall.

Failing that feel around the leg of the surround approx 18'' from mantel top and you may feel a buldge in the wall paper. That would show that there is a picture bracket attached.

Debrae always used to use hidden brackets , I am sure on all their surrounds.

    Hope this helps
