Transfer of child benefit

The mother and myself as father would like to transfer child benefit for our son from her to me. We are not together. She has our son the most. I know this is possible but is the process straight forward or will it involve any investigation? Ultimately we do not want to lose the benefit.
Thanks

Hi thanks for all replies. Rather than lose it, we want to continue claiming it for our son. interested to know what the process of transfer involves.0 -
she closes old claim down, you make a new claim.
Time scale would be anywhere between 6-12 weeks.0 -
You do realise exactly what you are doing? The mother and myself as father would like to transfer child benefit for our son from her to me. We are not together. She has our son the most. If the child lives with her the most (as you claim) then she is entitled to the CB if she signs over the CB to you she will have a host of problems trying to claim any child related benefits (CTC,CSA) and any housing benefits.I made a mistake once, believeing people on the internet were my virtual friends. It won't be a mistake that I make again!0 -

THanks although that does not apply here but worth noting0 -
So she doesnt get any child tax credits just now either?0

What you are proposing would be fraud unless the child actually went to live with you.0
