    then I reran AVG

so feeling quite pleased with myself

thanks for help so far, sorry if I sem a little slow taking it in.

Also I've just run Spyware Doctor and it is showing 277 infections but saying that to remove them I have to purchase the full programme from them

I'd download a couple of the other spyware removers (see sticky) and run them. No one spyware remover will detect everything.

Thanks for this thread, a Trojan has bypassed all my security set-up, think it came through MSN actually, so I am going to give all this a try later tonight.

My AVG anti-virus detected a trojan dialler yesterday and the same trojan dialler appeared again today in the system restore files. I used AVG to delete both of them, so I do not think it is necesary to delete system restores (but I may be wrong).

Like most Anti-Virus products, AVG will happily detect virus files inside restore points, and report them to you, but it will not delete them. Hence the need to turn off System Restore before attempting to fix any problems with AVG or other AV products.

In some cases, depending on the virus, you may also need to boot the PC in Safe Mode before a fix can be effected.

I followed the advice and at long last managed to get rid of my trojan dialler, by turning off system restore.

    Thanks
