Letter from St Andrews Group

Advice needed please.
I have received a letter from St Andrews Group with their address given as Halifax Insurance Ireland limited, PO Box 534, Uxbridge.
It says as follows.
This letter is important. Please read it.
Your Halifax Credit Card Repayments Cover - Standard

Dear Mr E***
Our records indicate there is a possibility that you may not have received the relevant documents in relation to the purchase of your insurance cover.

  • You had payment protection insurance for your credit card which started on 29th August 2006 and subsequently ended.

  • There is a possibility we did not send you all of the essential documents afterwards including the policy document.

  • When you bought your policy we didn't tell you about some important exclusions and limitations to the cover.
As a result you may not have been aware of your level of cover or cancellation rights.

What we will do to put things right

We have enclosed the important documentation you should have received when you bought the policy and can offer you one of the options set out below.

1) We can assess any claim you believe you could have made on your policy.
or
2) We can refund all of the premiums you have paid to date plus interest.

This page was followed by 6 other pages with one page giving a 0800 number to contact them as soon as possible to discus the 2 options. I did this today but got through to a gentleman that would not answer any of my questions. He did ask me several times what of the two options I would be taking. I told him I did not know I had been paying for repayments cover insurance and I mentioned I was self employed. He asked me if I wanted to make a complaint but I said I would need to seek advice before I did anything as I do not understand what the letter was about and he was not prepared to comment or answer any of my questions.
Long drawn out post I know but I am here for any help someone can give me with the above. I only had the credit card for 2 years so I doubt the refund will be much.
Thanks in advance. D.

Look at the money you would have recieved had you made a claim on this insurance (could you have made a claim on this ppi?),then look at what you have paid to date in ppi, then take the best deal.
  • Thanks for that. To have made a claim on this policy I would have needed to be unemployed, critically ill or dead and as I was not none of those between 2006 and 2008 my only option is to choose option number 2; refund all of the premiums you have paid to date plus interest.
    many thanks, D.
  • I received exactly the same letter in December and have only just got round to looking at it. I also never made a claim, but before I contact them I wanted to make sure they're legit.. What was the outcome of your response to them?
