Buyitdirect/Laptopsdirect and other associated companies, Huddersfield area

I would like to use this site to warn others about a group of companies, one of which I have first hand experience of using, namely:

Buyitdirect
Laptopsdirect
Appliancesdirect
Bambinodirect
Acerdirect
Directtv's
Serversdirect
and other associated companies, based in the Huddersfield area.

Some of their trade is directly with their various Huddersfield stores which sell laptops, tv's, camcorders, cameras, dehumidifiers, cookers and other appliances as far as I can tell. They also trade over the Internet.

Basically, they are taking the p*** huge time at the expense of their customers who pay good money for goods that are either faulty, very quickly become faulty, or should a customer have any kind of problem they seem to do their darndest to wriggle out of putting it right, or returning your money, or their obligations.

They rarely return calls (after they have your dosh), are extremely rude, promise to phone you back but don't, and their phone line has an 0871 prefix.

How this company have not been shut down for their poor and shoddy "customer service" (huh what a joke!!) and their slipshod trading habits I just do not know.

On doing an Internet search I have come up with several websites which have a large number of dissatisfied customers, mostly moaning about these companies. One site actually has about sixteen really stunning spot on reviews, all recommending the company(s), but these reviews are all dated with the same date, and once you have read past these there is bad review after bad review after bad, which makes me think that someone is possibly making up falsely glowing reviews.

Anyone else had any dealings with these companies?

Yes, I've bought two laptops from them in the past three years, most recent was around six months ago. Both were significantly cheaper than any other retailer I checked and I found the service very efficient.

As they are one of the biggest retailers on line I am sure many people have had dealings with them, what specifically did they do or not do to make you feel they should be shut down?

I really don't want to go into details, and to be honest it would take far too long to explain it all here, but I've had first hand experience of this company, their rude and nasty attitude towards their customers, their frequent attempts to blame any other person but their company and/or personnel for their frequent mistakes, and their unwillingness to put things right, make them a company I would never wish to do business with again.

Look at this site, and read past the first sixteen or so very good reviews which were all posted on the same date.

There are bad reviews of these companies all over the internet particularly Acer Direct. Plenty on here:

What about this Guardian reader who bought his wife a laptop with a 120GB hard drive as a Christmas present. When she opened it and set it up a month later she found it only had 16GB :rotfl: Acer Direct refused to refund because it was more than 28 days old.

You seem to have missed the part just after that where they agreed to collect it and replace it with the correct model.....?

I've dealt with them in the past and had no problems (Laptops Direct) You'll always get good and bad reviews with any company, even Harrods ! Just because you don't like them doesnt mean everyone else has to ! Maybe the 16 reviews on the same day are because they are busy at the moment ?

Yes, but I'm certainly not the only one who has had a horrendous time at the hands of these people!!

And where did I ask everyone else to not like them? I was sending out a warning to others if I remember rightly ...
  • I bought a laptop about 6 years ago from laptops direct, and I'm pretty sure my washer dryer was bought from Appliances Direct about 4 years ago. Obviously I can't speak for their current state, but both those purchases were trouble free.

Only after The Guardian chased after them though. Or did you miss that part?
