High Electricity Usage?
Options
Hi All,
I recently moved out into my first property, which is a 2nd floor all electric flat.
I have been keeping records of my electricity usage and it seems to be quite high compared to some of the guides i have seen. I am averaging around 100 / 110 kwh per week.
I work 7-6 each day and so am not in the flat that long during the week and the only thing left on during the day is a laptop and fishtank. The heating hasnt been used once since the weather has been warm and the flat faces the sun. Im slightly concerned that this is quite high usage and it would be good to know whether my concerns are valid.
Thanks all

I use around 50Kwh / week on non heating appliances, could it be that you have an electric immersion heater for your water, if thats on it would account for the additional usage. 2 hours a day would amount to 40 Kwh'ish. Also maybe electric shower, they are around 8 -10 Kw.That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Unless you are bathing in the fishtank:D I take it you are heating water.
And what do you mean by "the heating"? Have you really had no heaters on at all, ever? Kettle, toaster, oven, halogen lights, TV?
Basically 14 kWhrs/day is a lot for a fish tank and laptop but I suspect that is not all, or you are right to be concerned.0 -
Hi Reecy my electric for the last 7 days was 84 KWH, then I have a gas boiler too.
I live in a 3 bed semi if it helps. Very well insulated.
Is it just yourself in this ALL ELECTRIC flat?
Living on the second floor should help with the heat from the below flat...unless your flat is above the car park area?
Have you looked to see if you are on the cheapest tariff for your area? might be worth a look on the comparisent sites? The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -
Do you have access to your fuse box? If so, try getting an energy monitor, there are loads of links on this site to where you can get a cheap or free one. Once you attach it to your electric meter you will be able to see what you are using and how much. Try playing around with it - turn the heater or fish tank off, give it a couple of minutes for the meter to catch-up and then you can see what is using the most. It becomes a bit of obsession at first; you will probably find yourself turing off and unpluggin everything not in use and only using lights you really need, but it really does save moneyTotal Wins 2011: Zilch
