We've budgeted a maximum of £20 per person as we're down to my wage and SMP at the moment. We have about 13 people to buy for.
  • we have also agreed £20 per person. we have 10 people to buy for, i think quite alot of people are doing that this year. Otherwise its so silly, spending money and getting yourself into more debt isnt the point of xmas! :) x

  • There are about 25 in my family. Last year we agreed to buy main presents (about £10 ) for the kids only (there are 6 of them that aren't mine) and then just a token gift (max £5 but something you've made or baked or something instead will do) for the adults. I spend more on my own children and hubby, obviously. Maybe £100 each for the children and about £50 for hubby?

  • i buy for DF [£50] my niece [£25] my 2 sisters [£15 each] my brother in law's [£10 x2] parents and inlaws [£20x3] grandparents [£10x2].

My kids, it depends on what i have saved throughout the year, this year they have had £200 each, plus bedrooms decorated, new furniture etc in our new house. Some years it has been alot less, others a lot more, fully depends on what our income has been for the year.

I only buy for OH, his son, his mum, my son and my mum. I am doing hampers with homemade cookies and a few smellies - max spend on each £20 but I think I will come in under that.

We have had a special pot for the money for christmas food and have £120 to spend on food for christmas! I am sure we wont spend anywhere near that though as its only the 5 of us and I think my son is working. We have 2 small meat roasts and veg and already have serviettes and crackers left over from last year :D

So it is normal to spend about £20 per person?

I have 28 people to buy for - and am struggling to see how I'm going to do it - main reason is DH (and his family) have this thing where you've got to spend loads! Like £40 minimum per person.
Now my family are getting £20 each (mum, dad, nan & 2 brothers) - have also got 2 nieces and 2 SILs

Thats without his mum, dad, sister, brother, brother in law x2, sis in law, nephew, 2 cousins that are coming from Italy

Then my 2 stepkids.... and their uncle from their mothers side.

Its going to cost loads!!! :'(

Spend only what you can afford.
There are lots of offers out there at the moment & you can get lots of nice stuff on the M&S or Boots 3for2 xmas offers.

  • I've really cut back this year. This is my first Christmas since moving out of my mum's, who knew bills were so expensive?!

    Boyfriend - £30
Mum - £30ish plus crocheting her a scarf
Stepdad - £8 bottle of wine he likes
Dad - £2.50 (bottle of Monty Python's Holy Grail ale!)
    Niece - £10
Boyfriend's parents - making them chutney and mince pies, £5 for ingredients
Friend - £3, we're doing a Secret Santa so only need to buy for one friend out of the group, and the emphasis is on finding freebies!
