Housing Benefit for low income

Hi,

This is a post regarding housing benefits and help with Council tax.

My friend is self employed and sleeping in his mates clapt out caravan to try and save money as he is finding business really tough at the moment, as his business is not making much profit as such, he is claming working tax credit and now the cold winter months will soon be upon us he would like to move into a shared flat "rent a room" is there any housing benefit/council tax out there to help him with the cost?

He works full time (self employed, trying to ride out these horrible times as he has put all his money into his business a couple years back and doesn't want it to go bust as he owes the bank £9k) He is also working few evenings a week to try and get some money in too.

So currently he is living in his mates caravan and it's really getting him down and on top of him as it's getting really cold, damp and he just wants a warm bed even if it's just for the winter months.

Any advise/help out there for a hard working guy?

It's sad to watch this happen, so thought I'd ask x
