carers allowance, how many weeks is the minimum u can claim for?

hi,
in the past my husband has cared for someone getting dla and has claimed carers but then they moved away so he stopped his claim, however they will be moving nearby for 6 weeks and require caring for again .
can my husband claim carers for only six weeks or does it have to be a long term thing? ( i know it has to be 35 hours or more a week but does it have to be for a minimum amount of weeks ?)
