bed buying advice, silentnight

hi,

for about 18 months now weve been looking around for a new kingsize, 4 drawer divan for my folks. ive researched and researched til my eyes have bled, and basically come up with stay away from silentnight in all its various flavours, which we have done. thing is, we still havent saved enough to get a non silentnight bed that mum would be happy with, and weve just had to use a load of the savings (mum saves £2 coins!) on the boiler (lucky we remembered them!) heres my dilemma... tesco clubcard exchange runs out on the 1st dec, and you can use the vouchers for beds. that would mean we would have an extra £200 to use. the only beds they really have are various silentnights, rest assureds and airsprungs. ive read so many bad things about them, but maybe people only post bad things (seems unlikely granted). it would mean we probably could get mum a new bed soon, but i dont want to just panic buy one from tesco, if it really is gonna be totally rubbish.

thanks so much for any help or advice, we cant afford one from elsewhere atall now, so it would be tesco ones only. she keeps asking when shes gonna get a new bed, she doesnt know how bad the money situation is, and id really like her to have one soon. thanks again.

silent knight are no better and no worse than other branded uk beds. mid range prices.
the trouble is that to test a bed properly you need to try it out and even then 10 minutes in a bed shop is hardly a realistic test.
plenty of peeps have done that and been disappointed after the first nights sleep.

dont take too much notice of others either. their requirements can be very different from yours.
theres no easy answer to the bed/mattress problem.
    Get some gorm.
  • Just get something with decent springs (not those mini pocket ones) and thick enough topping on top and you should be fine

Silentnight are a known brand and use that to sell average beds, buit like Hortpoint who rely on their past name branding and produce mainly very average appliances. If you want something far better quality you will undoubtedly have to pay for it

I have had silent night in the past, had no problems really, they are ok but nothing special.

The one I have at the moment is a sealy posturpaedic with a layer of memory foam ontop if the pocket springs. Is the best bed I have had.

You are getting into a mine field on here as there are loads of posts ref beds. There is a guy on here called timdeegan, who apparently runs his own online bedshop, buy he is always the centre of arguments of the threads. Looking at some of them you never get a straight answer.

I dont think a bed is an ideal product to buy over the net, yes you have dsr's but do you want the hassle? Go around a lot of shops and try some out.

For what it is worth I love my Sealey

thanks all so much for your replies.

we just got in, after going to a couple of local bed shops to see if they had any that tesco have online, no, aaarrgh! im kinda put off by the miracoil thing, but all the others they have have memory foam, mum loves her lecky blanket, and i hear the two dont mix! theres a rest assured on tesco, and they had a different rest assured in one of the shops, but it seems theyre all along the same lines quality wise. there was a highgrove mum liked, but ive never heard of em, and sadly theyre not on tescos.

i did come across some of the posts about beds a good few months back, which is why i was pretty reluctant to post this query! but youve all been really helpful. i will see if tesco have any sealys. we'll go try a few more shops weds, honestly what a palaver! if it was for me id have just grabbed a random one, and have been done with it!

    thanks again!

DSR on a bed or mattress, good luck with that one. 99.9% of companies will say that once the goods are out of the package the "hygene seal" as such has been broken. I've not come across a company yet that has simple T+C's to return a bed or mattress.

Best advice, pocket springs over open coil. Try before you buy and spend as much as you can afford.
