What is the best Credit Card for me?

I have no credit history at all and want to get a credit card. Which is the best one for me?

Who do you bank with?
If you are earning you might want to see if your own bank would consider you for a credit card with them.
If not then due to your lack of credit history you'll need to consider one of the sub prime cards detailed here - 'Bad Credit' Credit Cards

Vanquis is usually the easiest to get (providing you are on the electoral roll and this shows on your credit files)

Hi Tixy,

I am with Natwest, and have a joint account with my other half with Lloyds TSB. Also in full time employment. I do have a Standing order that goes from my Natwest account to the Lloyds account - I guess this will not count towards my credit history.

Your credit history only shows any credit you have access to. This does include things like mobile phone contracts (not PAYG) but savings etc don't show up.

Your bank as they have more information about you and thus already know you are more likely to accept you for a credit card. (They can see how much you have in your accounts if they are with them).

Before applying it is worth checking your credit history with at least one of the CRAs (it only costs £2 to read you stautory credit file) and make sure that all the information on there is correct. Being on the electoral roll will also improve your chances of getting credit.
