Hi,
I originally posted this in consumer advice but think it would be better on here.
Not sure if this is in the right place but
I bought my daughter a pair of GHD's in the for sale/trade section of hot uk deals.
They have arrived this morning and are fake (very good ones), i only found out when i tried to register them.
I have rang my bank who have advised that as i paid by bank transfer there is nothing they can do and have advised me to go to the police (yeah right), dont think the police will be interested.
Has anyone any ideas on what i can do
I have emailed but they are not replying.

I'm afraid in all likelihood you have lost your money. BT is the equivalent of giving them cash.'The More I know about people the Better I like my Dog'

A bank transfer gives you no easy way at all of getting any money back- th efact they wanted you to use it should have rung alarm bells
Do you have a full geographic address that checks out for the seller? If so then small claims is the way to go- but of course even that doesn't guarantee you your money back.
Are there many of you on HotDeals that have been caught, if so might be worth working together to see who can do what to track down the sellersI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thanks, she has now come back to me saying she had no idea that they were fake but i will have to wait until the middle of December for my money back as she has spent it.
Looking at her history she has bought another pair of GHD's since i paid her !!!!!!!!!!!.
Really annoyed as hubby is out of work and i thought at £55 they were a good price £25 cheaper than new but not that cheap to be a fake.
Cant believe i fell for it.0 -
How have you arranged the Goods/Money exchange?
Do you honestly expect to be reinstated with your hard earned cash?0 -

No but if i can get her details from uk deals i can issue a summons.
Cant believe people will sell these things knowing they are dangerous, she knew they were for my daughter and still went ahead with the sale, I feel ill thinking of them blowing up near her face0 -
What's a GHD? *blushing with shame of ignorance*In deep...0

I sold an item on HDUK a couple of years ago. I wouldn't do it again, because the haggling on there drove me nuts. I sent the item before being paid because it was low value & the person had good feedback on there, whereas I had no feedback. It was a really stupid thing to do, because when I chased up about payment they were no longer registered with the website. I sent them a letter demanding payment & they did apologise and pay.
From my experience HDUK will not intervene on your behalf / give you another user's details. If you go to them with an issue they will refer you to their guidelines about trading face to face & it's your own responsibilty etc.
You already know your position in terms of getting your money back is very shaky. You may have some leverage if they have a good feedback on there, they don't want ruined. If you were to take it to small claims court (money claim online), it would cost £25 to bring a case. The threat of small claims court might motivate them to refund though. I would mention if they lost case; they would be responsible for the cost of bringing case, interest & it would have an effect on their credit rating etc. They sound very dishonest in terms of being too skint to refund but still making purchases.
I guess the lesson is to request a serial number before purchase so you can check secondhand GHDs are genuine and pay through paypal invoice so you have buyer protection.0 -
No they are now banning her and have told me to contact other users for her address!!!
As soon as i get it though i will be sending a letter.
Thanks0
