EBookers quote excluding VAT

Options
I want to warn everyone about the EBookers website and their very misleading quotes. I am in the uk and understand that all prices (except advertising to primarily business customers) must include VAT. If not then it must be clear to the customer. I was quoted a price of £437 for a hotel, payable on departure BUT have had £524.40 taken by the hotel from my credit card. The booking isn't until Marxh 2012. I have now spoken with 5 different people at ebookers including senior supv in Escalation team who claim "local taxes may apply" is sufficient. I think they are breaking the law. What's everyone's thoughts is I'm determined to take this further! I have never been quoted a final price that is exclusive of VAT!

Well, £437 + 20% = £524.40 so I assumed it's here in UK but I suppsoe it is best to have OP confirm.

I've just checked the site for a test booking and at the bottom it says 'You will be charged xx.xx' and gives a breakdown that clearly includes VAT. Where did you book exactly ?

There's a fair few EU countries that charge 20% VAT.

theres a 'new' trick in the industry to do with 'resort fees' and locally levied taxes - NYC is a !!!!!! for it, you get one price and you do your sums, you come to check out and its added like 14% to the total...
