I use frozen leeks as I hate all the preparation of them and I'm never sure if the soil has been washed away fully. i think they're better value than fresh ones.
One vegetable I never buy frozen is carrots. I think fresh carrots are much nicer." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

Do you have a microwave? I believe you can nuke frozen veg, though I don't really use it myself as OH is a bit of a snob about that.Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0

I steam my veg straight from frozen.
I usually cook the fresh spuds in the water, and in the basket I'll put a handful of frozen peas and a handful of frozen button sprouts or whatever and they cook together really well xxxI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

In my experience some veg freezer better than others - peas, sweetcorn, green beans , spinach broad beans are great, cauli, carrots and broc go a bit mushy, peppers are ok in slow cooked things were you want them soft but not good for stir fry etcPeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

I cook the potatoes in the bottom & steam my veg straight from frozen in the top of the steamer. It works well & means I only use 1 ring on the cooker. In my experience all frozen veg steams well straight from the freezer.0

If you want to cheat, I like:

Frozen broccoli is pretty decent. To avoid it going mushy, I find it's best microwaved with a tablespoon or two of water rather than boiled. I always cook it from frozen.0

Yep me too. I very often have fresh potatoes in the water at the bottom, fresh veg in the bottom steamer and in the top steamer the frozen veg. Potatoes I cook from cold water and when they have been boiling for five minutes then put the two top steamers on and cook for 15 minutes - done perfectly. If you do buy fresh veg yourself and you think you are not going to use it all you could cook/freeze it yourself for when you do need it. Put washed/peeled/chopped veg in boiling water for about 4 minutes, drain then doosh in freezing cold water then freeze. Then you can steam it when you need it again.LBM: June 2010 DMP started: 1/8/2010

Agree with comments about frozen veg. During the winter months it can be much cheaper, no waste and I will definitely be trying some frozen leeks! One of my favourites is to cook frozen French beans and then just before serving fry them in butter and garlic.
Just wanted to put in a word for tinned veg as a stand-by. Tinned whole baby carrots are good (not like fresh but like a different vegetable). Also my niece gave me a recipe they use in France. Soften an onion in a frying pan, add the 'juice' from a tin of peas & carrots and a good pinch of sugar, then add the veg and heat through. Very tasty.0
