Barnsley Fixed rate bond closure

  • Very decent of them - did you have to pay a penalty?

Also did you need to withdraw that much - would you spend that on living in 11 months?

    No penalty either.

I have decided to take the money out just in case. As I have learned you can't predict what is going to happen and I didn't want it all tied up as I didn't know if they would let me make more withdrawals or if it was a one time thing.

That was very good of them, I can't see many other organisations doing that.

I have always found YBS very good (much better than Nationwide) and Barnsley is now owned by them.

Be very careful with the cash, John. It's only too easy to try to spend your way out of depression when you are unemployed! Find the account paying the highest interest and if you can set up a standing order from it to pay your "salary' into your current account every month, do so. Let's hope it won't be too many months before you're back at work. Get down to the job centre, scan the internet, make sure your CV is up to date and well presented and start looking right away before you can descend into the "I'll just wait until after Christmas/New Year/ Easter mode!

    Best of luck!

Thanks for the advice. This is first time I have been out of work since I finished university (5 years ago) and it is a very worrying time to find myself unemployed. Thank you for the advice and thankfully I am surrounded by a very supportive family and friends.

Not a long time, so sadly no nice big payoff to help!

With your user name I suspect you are in London, so at least you are living where most of the good jobs are.
