Sick during Notice Period

Hi

I'm under consultation and working my 3 months notice. I am absolutely stressed and depressed.

My GP wants me to take a few weeks break and will sign it off, but i'm worried the company will dock my redundancy pay?

Is one allowed to take time off sick?

Thanks for reading

make sure you are paid sick and if you are and still have your fulll entitlement - do take sick if it is not going to have any serious problems with your redundancy xxx

Sick during notice is full pay(subject to an exclusion)

how long have you worked there?
  • Thanks all. Nothing in my contract about sick whilst under notice

I have worked here for 6 years and have only taken about 4 weeks in total over the 6 years.

An exclusion which applies. The notice period is longer than statutory notice, so there is no right to full pay except for whatever is contractual sick pay or SSP.

But OP - have you consdiered references? Which routinely now ask for sickness absence with many employers. Going off sick could make you a very unattractive prospect for potential employers, who don't care why you are sick or that it was redundancy notice - only that you have had a lot of time off sick.
  • i had to have three months off sick this year during my 90 day consultancy period - didn't seem to matter to anybody and references were not a problem.

you need to get yourself better before you end your redundancy notice in my opinion so you can come out of their fighting fit and ready to go xx
