Flying out with one airline & returning with another?

Is this allowed? I want to fly Virgin to Dubai because its overnight and you get a full day once you get there, but their return flight is 8.30am which means an early start! British Airways do a return night flight so could I book separate one way flights?

2 singles will cost probably twice as much as one return. If not, then go for itTimmay!0

I've done that with short haul lots of times, and never had a problem, the two catches I can think of are:
1) If Dubai have rules about visitors having to have return tickets and customs might get stroppy about it if they think you are up to something.
2) It might cost a lot more, sometimes 2 single flights are a lot more expensive than 1 return. When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.0
