How do you actually execute the trim in Windows Movie Maker?

The instructions stop short at the part where you move the red cursor to the point where you want the recording to begin, so how do you execute the trim? I've tried just saving it, but there is no change.(The red cursor bit cannot be captured on a screenprint)
