Petrol price rip-off in Stamford PE9

Can anyone offer any advice on how to shame petrol retailers into lowering prices when they charge more where you live than they do in neighbouring towns?
The cheapest unleaded in Stamford, Lincs where I live, was 134.9 on Friday. In all the surrounding (including smaller) towns the cheapest was 128.9. That's a 6p difference. How can I shame the profiteers into ending this rip-off?

What petrol stations are there? BP are notoriously expensive anyway and independent petrol stations have to charge more anyway, either to cover overheads or they don't get the discounts the bigger places get.
Not all places can compete with the supermarkets so the prices will be more expensive.0 -
We have a Morrisons which matches the local BP at 134.9.
BP at Oakham charges 128.9 and Morrisons at Corby charges 128.9.0 -
Just an idea, but I have always thought that the best idea in these situations is to shop somewhere else.MacmillanQuizzer wrote: »How can I shame the profiteers into ending this rip-off?
If everyone did that, wouldn't the price come down?
Err... rip-off?
Don't they have a big sign outside telling you the price?
In my humble opinion, that is not a rip-off.0 -

I believe there is an agreement between supermarkets and the competition commission/OFT that supermarkets won't cross subsidise. ie a tin of beans costs the same in every tesco rather then them charging more in areas where they have no competition and then using that excess profit to distort the market in areas where they do have competition.
I'm guessing it doesn't apply to fuel although I'm struggling to see why.0 -

That is not evident around here. We have an independent retailer who has two stations. On one, just outside the village, he charges 134.9 per litre, in the other near the next village he charges 129.9 per litre. Both are Shell and they have the same amount of pumps. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -

From what I understand ASDA charge the same for fuel everywhere. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
Tesco charge more for stuff in their Express stores than they do in the normal supermarkets. Also Co-op prices vary between stores, even ones in the same town/area.
Whatever happened to Pipeline Card? :rotfl:0
