I want to make an elasticated waist skirt for a fancy dress.
Looking on the internet it says twice the width of your hips, but I would like it fuller than that.
The material is 45 in wide, would making it out of 3 panels at 45 in look odd (it is only for fancy dress). (about 30 inches)
Or would I be better measuring 120 inches from the fabric and measuring the length to 30inches).
Does 120 inches sound to much?
I think I am asking which is the least wasteful as well.0 -
Meames it would be less sewing if you did it 120 inches by 30. You'd only have to do 1 seam and then top and bottom hems. Hope it works out OK. Happy Sewing all.:)£180.00 in 'sistercas'fund

Just jumping in with a quick sewing machine question, if that's ok.
I have a sewing machine I got from Tesco which is apparently continental make (E&R KPN series, if that means anything to anyone.) The bulb has just gone and our local market stall wanted to charge over £4 for a new bulb as they said it was a continental one, not the normal type, which seems a tad steep to me- the info leaflet says 230-240V, 15w , nothing in b&q or local hardware stores.
Any suggestions? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Stupid question alert
.
I need to sew a row of hooks and eyes onto a dance costume for my daughter. Is there an easy way to position them accurately? They are bloomin fiddly little things and my close up vision isn't what it was.
TIAI have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.

Hello again sewing folk! I've finally made it back to sewing after two weeks of being on school holiday. Welcome to new posters, miffy that pink quilt is absolutely gorgeous!
I finally got a walking foot and have learned to fit it. Haven't actually quilting anything yet though!
I'm venturing into the realms of paper-pieced quilting now but I'm not using paper, I'm drawing the shapes out with a set of plastic templates. I'm hand sewing the seams, then plan to quilt "in the ditch" with the machine when it's done.I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.
Weight loss journey started January 2015-32lbs0
