Further education & tax credits.

Hi,

I'm hoping someone might be able to offer me a little advice.... My son will be 16 in April..leaves school in May & is hoping to start sixth form in the September, I was just wondering will tax credits continue through out or end in April & start again in September?

Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks. :)

They are until 31st August following the child's 16th birthday in most cases anyway, and then from 1st September will continue as a qualifying young person in non-advanced education if he goes to 6th form. So there will be no gap.

However you need to tell tax credits that he staying on in education otherwise the tax credits will stop for him on 1st Sept.
